I had a rather pleasant dirty weekend in a hotel in Wareham earlier this year. Marvellous.

Bugger, I can't remember what they used shit for in clothmaking, but they certainly used it as a tanning agent in the leather industry.

There was indeed a rural clothmaking industry in Dorset, between Dorchester and Wareham. Corfe is near the edge of this area.

Maybe it had high quality shit which was in demand to the North...

I wonder if it's an occupational name, as they used to use shit in the cloth industry, and someone had to collect it.

On the other hand, I've no idea if there was any clothmaking in Corfe.

gph - There's a Shatters Lane in Wareham, just down the road from Corfe.
Maybe they're related

To be fair Cushelle is a worse name than ABCDE
Entirely appropriate for toilet paper

All I want to know is did she get almost every seat in the row ?.

Any mother who is born in an English speaking country who is not foreign and names their baby A B C D E deserves to know that they are an idiot.

If it were a foreign name I can understand but I am certain that abcde is not a popular name of any country because if it were we would already know because of the simple reason that it is comical to the English language/

I'm not sure of the veracity of these report, but it says Cushelle toilet paper was named as an act of revenge by Phil Freeman on his ex-girlfriend, Cushelle Stevens

There must be a young girl somewhere called Cushelle, there must be. Probably Stockwell or Peckham I would guess.

'That said, I'd prefer Moonunit to Sue...'

I got all choked up and I threw down my gun
And I called him my pa, and he called me his son
And I came away with a different point of view
And I think about him, now and then
Every time I try and every time I win
And if I ever have a son, I think I'm gonna name him
Bill or George! Anything but Goddam Sue!

When my Mum got into genealogy, she found the grave next to one of her ancestors was occupied by Mr Shitler.

(If you want to check this out, the Shitler family survived at least until 1911, as they are in the Corfe Castle bit of the census of that year, which is online.)

Re: Airline agent mocked 5-year-old girl's 'Abcde' name
I worked in a branch of RBS in 1988 (when it was a small, provincial bank, had about 5 branches in London back then) and we had a customer who changed his christian name by deed poll from whatever it was to 5-4-3-2-1 and his surname to 'Liftoff'.

I had to order his new cheque book and card in the name of Mr F Liftoff.

True story
